School is about to end in a couple of weeks and everybody seems to be excited with their respective plans. How about you? Do you have anything to do this summer? Just in case you don’t have any plans as of the moment and if you are looking for ways to make extra cash and you have good swimming skills, why don’t you take this opportunity to work as a lifeguard. It would be a good addition on your resume and aside from learning new things you would be able to help people and even make new friends.
If you are interested in working as a lifeguard below are some tips that should help you land the job.
1.)You must be familiar about the job of a lifeguard. Do you own research and talk to people who had experience with the job itself. Mainly it the lifeguards responsibility to ensure that swimmers remain safe at all times. If you are applying at a local resort, make sure that you are able to do some research about the resort before pushing through with the interview.
2.) Prepare yourself for an interview with your future boss or from the human resources department. Make sure that you are able to present yourself well and prove to them that you have what it takes to be a responsible and reliable lifeguard. Just a quick tip: If this will be your first time applying you may want to consider working at swimming pools to gain experience and eventually move to the beach once you have enough experience.
3.)Once you passed the interview be ready to undergo pre employment medical testing which would normally include x-ray, blood tests, medical history, stool and urine and the drug and alcohol testing which is mandatory just for your employers to make sure that you are not into any kind of addiction and you can be trusted to deal with human lives and you are physically fit to handle the job.
4.)If you passed the pre employment medical exams you and other new hires would be required to undergo basic lifeguard training, first aid and cpr course which is “mandatory” for this kind of job. Training usually takes a few days to a week and you are guaranteed to learn a lot from these training course so better take advantage of it. You will be able to use these skills in other kinds of job that you may have in the future. Once you pass all the written and practical exams, you would now be able to obtain your lifeguard certificate then you can start working as soon as possible.
